My Parents Told Me to Be Patient When I Said I Didn’t Love Sarah—Here’s How My Waiting Turned Out

My parents told me to be patient when I said I didnt love Sarah and urged me to wait. How did my waiting turn out?

Marrying Sarah felt like a waking nightmare. She was demanding, loud, and yet my father had chosen her for me. He spotted his friends daughter and decided wed be perfect together. Since I didnt have another girlfriend and was already thirty, I had to marry her. Sarah took charge of everything in our marriageevery detail had to follow her plans and wishes. Just as she wanted, we had our first child, then another.

Life rolled on through hardship and setbacks. There were so many dark moments, turning it into sheer misery. I despised my wife, my children, and even had a terrible falling-out with my father-in-law. I never thought Id manage without a divorce.

Mum always supported me, but both she and Dad insisted I just wait and be patient. It was as if they knew something, having lived their years, certain Id understand the truth when I was older.

Now, the children have grown and moved on. Im still with Sarahweve grown used to each other, found our rhythm, and I cant imagine life without her. Financially, things are stable. Weve settled into a quiet happiness, the kind that makes life feel like a dream. Both of us are healthy, wanting for nothing, still in love, and free of real worries. Everything is as it should be. For the longest time, weve had nothing to complain about.

It took us years to reach this point, but I wonderdo people truly find happiness when theyre busy with work, children, and everything else? Or do they, like me, only grasp it in old age? When theres nowhere left to run and no reason to.
