My Husband Gave My Daughter an Ultimatum: Either She Moves Away or He Files for Divorce Before My D…

My husband gave my daughter an ultimatum: either they move, or he files for divorce.

Before my daughter got married, I bought her a flat. My husband and I scraped together part of the money, and she saved up for the rest. It was only a cozy one-bedroom placewe werent well-off, so we just did what we could.

After the wedding, my daughter and her husband settled into that flat together. Two years on, they had a little boy, and then a girl a year later. Four people in a single bedroom quickly turned from snug to suffocating. They decided it was time to look for a bigger place. But getting a mortgage was out of the question they didnt have the deposit, and you know what property prices are like these days. They simply didnt have enough saved. Thats when my son-in-law came up with his brilliant plan: he told my daughter they should move to another city.

My daughter has a proper job and brings home a decent salary. My son-in-law, on the other hand, used to earn half as much as she did. He was recently made redundant, and now he just picks up odd jobs here and there. He spent ages searching for something more stable, only to decide the real problem was the city itself. So hes started pushing my daughter to sell her flat and move somewhere else entirely.

He keeps banging on about his own brother, who left for another city and now apparently earns a fortune. Naturally, my daughter turned him downshe wont even consider selling her home. Theyve got two young kids to think about. But then my son-in-law gives her an ultimatum: either start a new life somewhere else, or get divorced. I told my daughter to really think carefully about what he was asking. At the very least, I said, she ought to take some time off work to mull it over.

She told me she wants her children to grow up with both parents, so shes resolved to follow her husband. And she made it very clear that Im not to interferethat theyre their own family now.

But how am I supposed to just keep out of it, when they rush to us for help whenever they get themselves into a fix after ignoring our advice?
