The voice of her sonher greatest wish!

Emilys husband left her. Just like that. In the morning, when she went off to work, Daniel was still drowsing in bed, as his workday always started later. That evening, after picking up her youngest, Adam, from nursery and helping her eldest son check his homework, Emily realised it was getting late and her husband still hadnt come home.

She tried ringing him but Daniel wouldnt answer. Her heart froze. Emily attempted to compose herself and called his boss, Mr. William Spencer, but he didnt pick up either.

At a loss, she texted, Where are you? Surprisingly, he responded almost immediately: I cant do this anymore. Im leaving to live on my own.

Emily stared at her phones screen. She didnt want to know what he couldnt handle. It was obvious enough.

It all began five years ago, when Adam was born. At first, he was just like any other child his age. The only thing that unsettled Emily was that Adam didnt make any sounds. He cried, true, but instead of the usual baby babbling, he would grunt.

When Adam turned one, Emily started noticing that the other children his age were already saying their first words: Mummy, give, there. But her son remained silent, only grunting when he wanted something. Doctors shruggedHes healthy, his development is normal. Dont worry, hell speak in time.

Daniel used to work patiently with Adam. But when Adam still hadnt spoken at the age of three, he gave up. He grew frustrated, distancing himself more and more from their son. He didnt play with him, avoided even looking at the boy.

Emily never gave up, though. Her greatest hope was to hear Adams voice.

After the child, Daniel started directing his anger towards Emily, blaming her for giving birth to a broken child.

She tried talking to him, soothing him, but it only sparked more rage. Divorce never crossed her mindshe loved her husband deeply, believing that once Adam spoke, everything would fall back into place.

And now, he was gone. That was it.

The next three days felt like a blur. Yesterday, while Emily was at work, Daniel cleared out his thingsnot just his own, but some household items as well. She found out later that evening. When her eldest son asked where the tablet was, Emily dropped her head into her hands, wanting to cry, but the tears wouldnt come.

That night was unbearable. Terrifying thoughts whirled through her mind. She didn’t remember how she ended up sitting on the bedroom windowsill, the window thrown open. Night air, the cold caress, seven floors down.

One step, and it would all be over. Suddenly, behind her, she heard a rustling sound and a small voice: Mummy, please dont!

Emily couldnt believe her ears. She jumped off the windowsill, turning around. Adam was standing there, his tiny face earnest. He repeated, Mummy, please dont!

Emily embraced her son, clutching him tightly as silent tears trickled down her cheeks.

A thought swept through her mind: From now on, everything will be alright.

Sometimes, even in the darkest moments, a voice filled with love and hope can bring us backthe most precious words are often those that come when we need them most.
