Consumed by Jealousy: The Moment I Saw My Wife Step Out of Another Man’s Car, I Lost Control and Ruined My Life

I was rooted to the spot by the window, watching the inky night through the glass, a halfempty glass of whisky clenched in my fist. Each tick of the clock pierced the silence, every second stretching mercilessly.
She was late.
Far too late.
Then headlights cut through the street.
A black sedan pulled up in front of our house. My heart tightened. Behind the wheel sat a mantall, confident, a stranger.
The passenger door swung open.
And she stepped out.
A cold shiver ran down my spine.
She smiledlight, natural, conspiratorial. She leaned toward him, whispered something, and he chuckled, a soft, almost intimate laugh.
She closed the door and headed back inside, oblivious to the storm raging inside me.
My blood boiled.
Who was this man? How long had this been going on? Was it the first time?
She slipped through the door, tossed her bag onto the table as if nothing had happened.
Who was that? My voice was low, sharp.
She froze, surprised, and asked, What?
The man in the car. Who is he?
She exhaled deeply, irritated. Thomas, not again Hes Julies husband. He just gave me a ride, thats all. Are you serious?
I could no longer hear her.
All I sensed was a dull, growing rage. A scorching heat in my head, a flood of dark thoughts.
My hand rose before I could stop it.
The slap cracked through the room.
She recoiled, her hand pressed to her face, a thin line of blood escaping her nose.
The ensuing silence was unbearable.
She stared at me, frozen, her eyes wide with fear.
A knot formed in my throat.
I had crossed a lineone I could never step back from.
She didnt scream. She didnt cry. Nothing.
She simply took her coat and left.
The next morning a bailiff handed me the divorce papers.
I lost everythingincluding my son.
I endured your jealousy for years, she said in our final conversation, her voice as cold as ice. But violence, never.
I begged her forgiveness, swearing it was a mistake, a momentary lapse that would never happen again.
She wouldnt listen.
Then, in front of the judge, she claimed I was also violent toward our child.
A lie.
A vicious lie that sealed my fate.
I had never raised a hand against him, never raised my voice at him.
Who would believe a man who had already struck his wife?
The judge didnt hesitate.
She was granted sole custody.
Me? A few hours a week, limited visitation in a neutral setting.
No nights at home. No mornings where I could make his breakfast.
For six months my life shrank to those sparse hoursthose fleeting moments when he ran to me laughing, his tiny arms wrapping around my neckonly to watch him leave again and again.
Then one day he said something that shattered me.
The truth my fiveyearold son revealed.
He was growing, understanding more.
One afternoon, while pushing his little cars across the table, he said innocently: Dad, last night Mom wasnt there. There was a lady with me.
My heart stopped.
A lady? Which lady? I asked, trying to stay calm.
I dont know. She comes when Mom goes out at night, he replied.
A chill ran through me.
Where does she go? I pressed.
He shrugged. She doesnt tell me.
My fingers clenched.
I had to find out.
When I finally learned the truth, my throat tightened.
She had hired a nanny.
A foreign woman.
While I begged for more time with my own son, she was leaving him with a stranger.
I grabbed my phone and called her.
Why does a stranger look after our son when Im here? I demanded.
Her voice was calm, cold. Because its easier.
Easier?! My anger roared. Im his father! If he cant be with you, he must be with me!
She sighed. Thomas, Im not going to cross the whole city every time I have an appointment. Stop making everything about you.
My phone trembled in my hand.
What could I do? Sue her? Fight for custody?
And if I lost again?
A single mistake. One fleeting lapse. And everything was taken from me.
But my son?
I will not let him slip away.
I will fightbecause he is the only thing I have left.
