One Day, Monica’s Mother Asked Her to Bring a Solicitor to Her Home—She Wanted to Write a Will. Soph…

One day, her mother asked Emily to bring a solicitor round to the house. She wanted to make a will. Margaret said that her inheritance would go to Emily, since her younger daughter didn’t bother to look after her. She thought it best to let her live her own life.

Margaret had two daughters. All her life, she tried to provide the very best she could for them, from clothes to the meals on the table. The elder daughter, Emily, is married and lives with her husband in a rented flat. The younger daughter, Harriet, still lived at home with Margaret. Harriet had just finished university when she met a young man who, after a while, proposed. They started living together with Margaret, as there was enough space for everyone, so the couple didnt rush to get their own place. Meanwhile, Emily never asked for anything. She lived quietly with her husband and their six-year-old son in their small rented flat.

One afternoon, Harriet rang to say their mother had suddenly fallen ill and been taken away in an ambulance. Emily quickly got ready and went straight over to see her.

She found out that the outlook wasnt good. Their mother had actually been ill for some time, but nobody had paid the symptoms much attention until now. What Margaret needed most at this stage was care and support. The doctors sent her home. At first, the younger daughter did her duty and dutifully cared for her mother. But after a month, Harriet grew weary of the responsibility. She ended up calling her sister to take over looking after their mother. Eventually, Harriet admitted she just couldnt cope anymore.

Harriet suggested a tradeshed stay for a while in Emilys rented flat, while Emily, her husband, and their child moved in with Margaret to look after her. And so thats what happened.

Emily first took some holiday leave, then switched to unpaid leave. All her colleagues at work were supportiveafter all, who hasnt dealt with something like this?

One day, Margaret asked Emily to fetch a solicitor. She wished to write her will. Margaret said everything would pass to Emily, since the younger daughter clearly wasnt interested in caring for her mother. Let her get on with her own life, she said.

When their mother passed away, Harriet finally turned up. She demanded they swap flats, insisting she ought to live there. Emily explained about the will, that it was their mothers wish, and she had no plans to change it. From that day onward, the sisters stopped speaking. Harriet went everywhere telling people how selfish her sister was, that Emily had taken everything from her. Nothing was mentioned about Harriet refusing to care for their mum.

Emily pays no mind to anything Harriet has to say.
