Innan vi hann blinka insåg vi att vår dotter vuxit upp.

Hon var verkligen en vacker ung kvinna. Beundrare saknades inte. Efter hand började vi märka hur försiktig vår dotter var i sitt beteende. Till slut förstod vi orsaken. Hon hade blivit förälskad i en pojke. Vi blev glada, både min man och jag, när vi fick höra nyheten och bad henne att presentera honom för oss. Vi undrade vem som varit tillräckligt lycklig för att vinna hennes hjärta. Hon lovade att vi snart skulle få träffa honom.

Nyligen berättade vår dotter att hon tänkte ta med honom hem. Jag tillbringade hela dagen i köket med att laga mat; klassiska svenska rätter stod på bordet. Min man städade hela lägenheten. Vi ansträngde oss verkligen och såg fram emot kvällen. Vi tog hand om vår dotter. Hon var så uppenbart lycklig. Hennes leende ville aldrig försvinna, hon gick inte utan svävade omkring. Vi såg på henne med en innerlig glädje över att allt verkade gå så bra i hennes liv.

Han kom, och mitt första intryck var gott. Artig, rolig och vänlig. Vi bjöd dem till bords. Men hela kvällen gnagde något inom mig jag var säker på att jag hade sett honom förut. Hans ansikte var så bekant, men tankarna ville inte släppa taget. Vi pratade och skrattade, och hennes pojkvän visade sin bästa sida, så vi kunde slappna av.

Men när han hade gått, fick jag plötsligt allt klart för mig. Jag mindes exakt varifrån jag kände igen honom. Det var från en efterlysning i tidningen han och en annan man var eftersökta för bedrägeri. Man uppmanades att omedelbart anmäla om man såg dem. Jag berättade direkt för min man och vår dotter. Min dotter brast ut i gråt och anklagade mig för att ha hittat på den där historien, bara för att förstöra för henne.

Men det var inte sant. Jag ville bara varna henne för eventuella problem. Vi bryr oss om vem hon väljer att dela sitt liv med. Som svar packade min dotter sina saker och lämnade vårt hem.

Nu har vi inte hört från henne på en månad. Hon svarar inte heller på mina samtal. Skuldkänslorna äter upp mig inifrån. Kanske hade jag fel kanske är hennes val ändå en vanlig, hederlig person.
