All These Years We’ve Been Together. Yes! Don’t Look So Shocked and Don’t Faint…

All these years weve been seeing each other. Yes! Dont roll your eyes or stare
I wont linger. Im your husbands lover! Weve been together all this time. Yes! Dont make a fuss or look away.
Yulia was preparing dinner; her husband Oleksiy was due back in an hour. Their tenyearold daughter Karina was at dance practice.
She would be home in half an hour, drop her bag, and sit at the table waiting for the meal. While she waited, she would chatter about friends, her achievements, her teacher Yulia smiled. She always enjoyed listening to her daughter.
A knock came at the door. It was early for Oleksiy, but he had a key. So Karina must have forgotten hers again. Yulia opened the door, but instead of her girl stood a young woman.
I wont linger. Im your husbands lover. Weve been together all these years. Yes! Dont make a fuss or stare.
All these yearshow many is that?
Three years. It suited me fine. Its much calmer to live alone and have a husband who comes and goes.
No expenses, financial or physical. I didnt wash, cook, or clean after him. Im not planning to change anything now.
I wouldnt have come if I werent in this position. Its a coincidence, but its too late to do anything.
Yulia recalled how long it had taken her to become a mother. Everything was fine with her, but Oleksiy had problems, so they turned to artificial insemination.
The first attempt failed, but the second succeeded. Yulia even expected twins, as that isnt rare with the method. Karina was born, and now this news arrived.
How can you say you wont change anything? You have a husband who comes and you think the father will just appear?
No, not exactly. Ill have a husband and a child who come.
Interesting. How do you picture that? The father will raise the child and come to you so the child can be with his mother?
Exactly. I didnt want a child; it was accidental.
But Oleksiy said he couldnt have children?
Then he can! I need to see the conditions in which my child will grow. All makes sense.
Your daughter, and Oleksiy will take part in her upbringing even if he isnt the father. Now the child will be his, and the childrearing will fall on your shoulders.
Miss, Im not even inviting you, I dont know your name, your man no longer lives here, you can take his things. The rest doesnt concern me!
Yulia tried to shut the door but saw her daughter returning from class.
Mom, what was that? What child? Why isnt dad my father?
Did you hear everything? Then its time to explain it all.
Mom, Im almost eleven now. Ill understand.
Yulia told her everything.
Youre my daughter, but dad loves you; on paper hes your father. We waited for you together.
Now hes waiting for another child, but you wont be its mother. I wont be a sister. Right?
Yes youre right. And also Im grown up; I dont want to live with dad any longer.
Ill help you, dont worry, Mom. Im an adult now. Let him go. I love you both, but the one who showed up let him go to her.
Oleksiy arrived precisely on schedule.
What happened to us? Why does nobody meet me, hug me?
Usually Karina would greet and hug her father, but now there was silence. She stayed in her room.
Yulia, wheres our daughter? Delayed at dance, or sick?
Your lover came. Shes waiting for a child. Yours! Can you explain why shes here?
Yulia, understand, this is my child; I cant abandon her.
And you know what shes offering?
I know. She didnt want her, but Karina is ours, and therell be another. Itll be my child! Shell live with me.
Are you sure its yours? Remember your diagnosis?
Exceptions exist!
Fine. Youll go to the mother with your exception right now, take your things later!
No, Yulia! Thats not right! No ones waiting for me there. Im not needed needed, but differently.
Theyre not waiting for you here either. Youre not needed. Leave!
What about Karina? Im her father, even if not biological. Ill raise your daughter anyway. Whats wrong if my real child lives with us? Everythings fine.
My future childs mother already told me about justice. First find out if shes yours, then speak. Goodbye.
Yulia and Oleksiy split. He had to leave because the apartment belonged to Yulias parents. They had built a house but never transferred the flat to their daughter, a detail that mattered little in the divorce.
Oleksiy now had nowhere to live. The man who sometimes showed up was better for his lover, and she didnt want to change her lifestyle. She also refused to care for the baby.
She wanted to have fun, not endure sleepless nights, diapers, or illnesses. After the child was born she sued for alimony and lost. How the negligent mother now raises the child is unknown. Oleksiys diagnosis remained unchanged; his infertility wasnt confirmed.
Legally the daughter is his, but she avoids contact. He pays child support, tries to rebuild the family, yet Yulia also doesnt want to see him.
So it turns out, sitting on a single point of two chairs isnt easy
