That day my mother-in-law stayed at home while I went to work. In the afternoon, my neighbour called me. Panic-stricken, I rushed back home.

I burst into the living room, not even bothering to take off my shoes. To my shock, my mother-in-law was in tears, and beside her sat a strange man. My children were nowhere to be found. I tried to call my husband for help, but he refused to come.
Later that same day, I had all the locks changed and decided I would never let my husband into the house again.
A few years ago, he worked for a large company and earned a generous salary, but his schedule was so demanding that he barely had time for family life. He would leave for work before the children woke up and return when they were already in bed. Some days, hed work through the night, so the kids often asked me when they would finally see their father, and I couldnt give them an answer. He also travelled frequently for business, leaving me to handle the challenge of raising our children alone. I worked at a school and occasionally assisted a social worker who dealt with troubled kids.
Due to my own hectic routine, I often had to rely on my mother-in-law to look after the children. Despite her age, she was rather self-absorbed and wouldnt let the kids call her Granny. She hardly paid them any attention, mostly focusing on her own interests and men. Although I worried about leaving the kids with someone like her, I declined my mums offer to hire a childminder.
One day, after entrusting my children once more to my husbands mother, I received a call from a neighbour. She told me there was shouting and arguments coming from my house.
I rushed home and saw the front door wide open. Still in my shoes, I ran into the living room, where I found my mother-in-law crying alongside an unfamiliar man. It turned out the children had run away while she and her friend were busy with each other. I was furious and deeply hurt by my husbands indifference when I called for his help.
In a wave of emotion, I asked my mother-in-law and her companion to leave and never return. Desperate, I dashed to the local police station and reported the situation, triggering a search for my missing kids. Despite my efforts, we couldnt find them right away, and I was heartbroken.
After hours of searching and worry, I got a call from a close friend who lived nearby and often visited me and the children. The kids had told her that their Victoriaas they called their grandmotherhad shouted at them and made them stand in the corner for playing too loudly while she was with her boyfriend. I went straight over, picked the children up, and thanked my friend for her help.
Once back home, I didnt waste a moment and rang for a locksmith to change all the locks. I packed my husbands things into a suitcase and left it by the front door. Naturally, he didnt return that night. The next day, I took leave from work and started divorce proceedings. Despite his pleas for reconciliation, I decided to move forward.
Later, I discovered hed been unfaithful.
Now, I live happily with my lovely, well-mannered children. Not long ago, I met a good man who respects and loves me and my kids as his own. Looking back, I can thank my mother-in-law; she gave me the push I needed to close that chapter. If not for that incident, I might have stayed in an unhappy marriage far longer.
