My Grandma Lives Alone in Her Own One-Bedroom Flat—Why Won’t She Consider Moving to a Care Home So W…

I’ve got a grandmother who owns a little one-bedroom flat. She lives there on her own. I suggested that she might look for a good care home, where she’d have company and proper support. If she moved there, we’d have her place to live with our future child. But my grandmother just reacted with outrage and theatrics.

It happened that I was only eighteen when I found out I was expecting. My boyfriend proposed, and he got himself a job to try and save some money.

Money is tight, and sometimes we can’t even afford the essentials. My boyfriend does his best, wanting to make sure our child has everything needed. I just didn’t know what to do. I’m desperate, because we’ve got nowhere of our own, and a child needs a suitable home to grow up in.

Why can’t my grandmother see that this is the best solution for all of us?

She struggles to look after herself, with no one to help as shes all alone. In a care home, shed be well looked after, have friends around her, and could actually enjoy life a lot more.

I’ve realised Ill need to speak with her again. Ill try to explain that care homes in England offer good support, hoping she’ll understand and maybe won’t refuse. We’re all just people, but we all need to be approached in different ways.

I keep thinking about the baby well soon be welcoming. We haven’t got a place to call our own, but our child needs somewhere to grow up and learn. Our child needs a proper home! And honestly, my grandmother would be far happier and safer in a good care facility.
