His Mother-in-Law Insisted Her Granddaughter Wasn’t Family—Two DNA Tests and Unexpected Revelations Brought Them Closer Than Ever

The relationship between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law is as old as the hills, much like the age-old bond between fathers and their children. We choose our husbands ourselves, but mothers-in-law come as part of the bargain. Let me share the story of my dealings with my own mother-in-law.

I first met my husband when I was a university student. He was the picture of academic excellence, while I was a cheerful student with a zest for life. As the old saying goes, opposites attract.

So, before long, we found ourselves pulled together. A year later, he proposed, promising to cover all the expenses of our wedding. For six months, he juggled study and work without a single day off, determined to make sure our ceremony was nothing short of magical.

There were plenty of young men around me back then, yet I chose him. He seemed the ideal suitor, save for one rather discouraging aspect his mother.

After our wedding, things became rather fraught between my husband and me, chiefly because of my mother-in-law. She constantly bombarded me with criticism and never-ending remarks; it had been this way from the very start.

She could not bring herself to accept our child either. In my presence, she declared that our daughter could not possibly be her sons child and went so far as to claim the little one was every bit as daft as her mother. That was the breaking point for me, and from then on, I severed all contact with her.

But of course, it wasnt so simple to rid myself of her influence. One afternoon, she marched into my flat, clutching a slip of paper. She announced with grand certainty that shed had a DNA test done and that she could finally expose me our child was not her sons.

Naturally, neither my husband nor I believed a word of it. The very next morning, we found ourselves at the DNA laboratory.

The results stunned everyone: it turned out that my husbands mother was not his biological mother at all. The likelihood of her being his birth mother was zero. My husband had been adopted, as she could not conceive. Her husband had wanted a child, and so they adopted.

And so, the truth came to light. What you sow, so shall you reap.
