I Can’t Help but Cry: After Eleven Years Devoted to My Daughter’s Family, They’ve Treated Me Like a Nanny and Now They’re Leaving Me Behind on Holiday

I honestly cant help but cry. For so many years, theyve treated me like a nanny.

Its been eleven years since my daughter got married. I liked her husband from the moment I met him clever, well-mannered, and genuinely nice. When Emily became his wife, I was over the moon. A year later, becoming a grandmother only added to my happiness. As I was about to retire because of some health issues, my daughter suggested I move in with them, saying she could use some help looking after the children. I gladly took her up on the offer and moved in.

For the past ten years, Ive poured my energy into the household. Ive cooked dinners, done endless loads of laundry, mopped floors, dusted cupboards you name it, all so Emily and James could come home to comfort and really focus on their jobs. Then, one day, they sat me down and gave me some news I didnt want to hear.

Theyre off on holiday with the kids. And Im not coming. They said they need a break from me. After all these years, it feels like Ive just been the help, the family babysitter. I just cant stop the tears.
