Today I Invited My Former Daughter-in-Law and My Grandchildren for Christmas Eve, but Forbade My Son…

Today, I invited my former daughter-in-law and her children to my house for Christmas Eve, but I told my son not to come.
This evening, it’s Christmas Eve, and I’ve asked my former daughter-in-law to join me with my grandchildren. My son is not welcomeI made that clear. I busied myself making a Christmas yule log, laying out the table, and waiting for my beloved daughter-in-law, Charlotte, and the children. I baked a sponge cake for them and bought some presents for my grandchildren. I love when they sing carols in my living room and fill the house with festive cheer. As long as I am able, I will always stand by them.
While I was preparing Christmas dinner, I couldn’t help but pick up the phone and call Charlotte to invite her and the kids. Id already told my son not to come. In fact, when he left his first wife, I warned him I wouldn’t accept anyone else as my daughter-in-lawCharlotte is the only one for me.
My son divorced five years ago. He behaved disgracefully, reallywalking out to be with another woman when the youngest was barely a few months old. Even before that, he’d been cheating on Charlotte and spinning her ridiculous stories to cover it up.
There I was watching Charlotte, arms full with two little ones, working herself into the ground, while my son made excuses about being busy at work when we all knew he was seeing someone else. Eventually, his mistress pressed him to make a choice, and so, suitcase in hand, he left, abandoning his wife and babies.
Right from the off, I was firmly on Charlottes side. My son’s behaviour was indefensible. Yes, he pays child support, but money isnt the same as having a father or a proper family. He ignored me and remarried last year. Everyone expected Id bend and welcome his new wife, but I refused. Now hes had another child, yet it hasnt changed my view towards his mistress.
For me, my grandchildren are Charlottes children, and I want for nothing more. Ive told him to his faceone day, hell regret it all and come crawling back. For now, I spend the holidays with Charlotte and the children.
Charlotte and I have a wonderful relationship now, along with the children. We celebrate the holidays together, speak regularly on the phone, and often pop round to see each other. She devotes herself to her kids and, as their grandmother, I do everything I can to helphaving them round to stay, helping out with money, and assisting with their homework. Over the years, Charlotte has become like a true daughter to me. Her own parents live more than 350 miles away and arent able to help her much.
Now, Christmas is nearly here again. I make the yule log, set the table, and look forward to welcoming Charlotte and the children. Ive baked a cake and wrapped gifts for the little ones. Their singing always fills the house with happiness. I know that for as long as I can, Ill always be there for them.
