One day, a man came home and said: “I’m sorry. I’ve fallen in love with someone else. I’ll still be there for the boys. I’m leaving—please forgive me if you can.”

The man left Emily with the children and walked out. The next day, a story from the neighbour opened Emilys eyes. Emily married late in life. Before that, she was focused on her studies. Then work took over her days. It was there she met him. She bumped into Matthew as she hurried to the office. She accidentally touched him, and he instantly fell for Emily.

That evening, after work, as Emily walked out, Matthew suddenly appeared. He opened an umbrella over her and handed her a bouquet of flowers. That was how they met. Flowers, surprises, gifts. Six months later, they were married. A year later, their first child was born.

Emily gained some weight during pregnancy, but it didnt bother Matthew. Then came their second son. Emily put on even more weight. She never went back to work and devoted herself to the house and her sons. Meanwhile, Matthew started his own small business repairing computers. Emily didnt notice how her husband began drifting away from the family. This year was particularly tough. Matthew disappeared into his work, started going on business trips. Emily never realised that he wasnt actually travelling to other cities. One day, he returned home and calmly said, Im sorry. Ive fallen for someone else. Ill help out with the boys. Im leaving. Forgive me, if you can.

Emily didnt expect it. It wasnt until the next day that their neighbour told Emily that her husband had been cheating on her for a long time. Emily was beside herself. Eight months passed.

One evening the buzzer rang. It was Matthew, hed come to see the kids. Emily exchanged a few words with him before heading to the kitchen. Then her phone rang. She answered, saying, Hi, I thought youd forgotten about us. No, how can you forget happiness? Ill pick you up tomorrow. Im sure you and the boys will love the new flat. I love you.

Emily put down the phone, and a smile spread across her face. Thomas had proposed, theyd live together. Emily turned to go into the boys room. Matthew heard everything: Am I too late? he asked, staring at the floor. Yes! Emily exclaimed, full of joy.
