Dad Left Us Behind. Years Later He Returned—But My Mother’s Reaction Was the Most Surprising of All

When I was eleven, and my little sister just two, our father abandoned us. He found another woman, one he thought looked better than Mum. As he left, Dad gifted us the flatbut with a mortgage hanging over our heads, as a parting “bonus.” That was the moment our world turned upside down.

Back in the days when Mum and Dad were still together, I brimmed with enthusiasm. I attended the top school in Manchester. I danced every week, collecting medals I still keep, proof of those brighter times. But after their divorce, everything changed. Mum took on several jobs at oncecleaning people’s homes, working as a shop assistant, and handing out leaflets in between.

I had to switch from my private school to the local one, cheaper and closer to home. There, I received straight As without much effort, but the excitement was gone. Dance became just a memory; I simply couldn’t squeeze it in. I had to take my sister, Emily, to and from nursery every day. Nothing was the same as before.

Soon, I finished secondary school, enrolled at university, and started working to help out. In short, I lost my childhood. It was taken from meby Dad, who left us, and by Mum, who dragged me along to help clean strangers’ flats.

Recently, we finally paid off the mortgage. I’m twenty-three now, and I’m saving up for my own place. Life feels so much lighter. But here’s the twist: As soon as the mortgage was cleared, Dad suddenly resurfaced in our lives. Things didnt work out with his new woman, so now he wants to come back to Mum.

Now, Mum walks around smiling, radiating happiness. Frankly, I cant understand what he thinks hes doing. He never paid us any child support, left Mum drowning in mortgage debt with two young girls to care for. Does he really think, after Mum and I sorted everything ourselves, he can just come back as if nothing happened? Does he imagine anyone is glad to see him? Yes, Mum is happy… And I loathe her for it, with all my heart.
