My daughter is my whole life. Now, that’s more true than ever. Last winter, I had to take sick leave because Emily came down with a terrible throat infection. She had a high fever, and we had to call an ambulance more than once.
My wife was working on an important project at her office, so I stayed home to look after Emily. During the day, I made sure she ate well and gargled to soothe her throat. I kept her temperature under control and did everything I could to help her recoverand, without realising, I ended up sick myself. Honestly, I wasn’t really worried about myself.
One cold winter morning, I felt dreadful. I gave Emily some fever medicine, took some myself, but it made little difference. I had no energy at all, so I just stayed in bed with Emily while she played with her dolls. At some point, my eyes became swollen, and everything faded to black.
But Emily wasnt fooled. She rang her mum on her tablet and said, Daddys asleep and wont wake up, not even when I tickle him. That terrified my wifeshe immediately called an ambulance to our home and raced back from work.
The doctors found that my temperature had risen to 41 degrees and said I had nearly died. Emily, with her quick thinking and her tablet, prevented a tragic outcome without even realising how much she’d helped me.
