As we drew nearer, Jack noticed the young girl whispering something that sounded like “help me,” and he felt there was not a moment to waste. He may not have fully grasped the gravity of the situation, or perhaps it was all happening so fast he simply had no time to think it through, but he decided to act regardless of the risks involved. In a flash, Jack rushed forward and pulled the girl away from the man’s grip.
“Do you know him?” he called out loudly. The girl shook her head, saying nothing. The man tried to seize the girl again, but Jack stepped in and blocked his path. Without hesitation, Jack rang the police, while the man made an attempt to escape. Jack sprinted after him, managed to catch up, floored him, and restrained him until the constables arrived.
It is thanks to people like Jack that we cling to the hope that kindness, clear-sightedness, and concern for others still have a place in our world. Indeed, who can say what might have happened to that young girl, had Jack not intervened? Her family still cannot thank him enough, calling him their “hero” and never forgetting his courage.
