“You Owe Me One,” Announced My Aunt Before Deciding to Move Her Nephew into My Flat

Hello everyone. Im a young chap, just 22, and not long ago I managed to scrape together enough for a small studio flat.

When I turned 18, I headed off abroad to earn some money, all so my girlfriend would have somewhere decent to hang her coat. I didnt hit the jackpot or anything, but I did save up enough for a little fixer-upper.

Its worth mentioning that at a certain point, I actually got stuck into doing the renovations. My girlfriend was staying with her parents at the time, thanks to a few well, family matters.

Now, sorting out a flat isnt exactly a walk in Hyde Park, so my aunt piped up and said shed lend a hand. Of course, about 90 per cent of the work I did myself, but together we got the wallpaper up, and she was a star when it came to helping me clear up the mess afterwards.

When all the grimy jobs were finally done, I threw a mini housewarming and invited my girlfriend and aunt over. At some point, my aunt sidled up to me and said, Well, I helped you, now its your turn to help me. She wanted her nephew to stay at my flat for a bit.

Right off the bat, I said no I mean, the place is tiny, and I wasnt about to take responsibility for someone I hardly knew. She was clearly miffed.

The next day, I dropped by her work with an envelope stuffed with a few hundred quid. She took the envelope promptly, but looked put out and wouldn’t speak to me.

So, what do you reckon did I do the right thing, or was I a bit of a pillock? Should I have handled it differently?
