People Often Adopt Children from Orphanages, but I Decided to Bring My Grandmother Home from a Care Facility

None of my friends or neighbours could make sense of what Id done back then. I was the talk of the streetpeople pointing, whispering, Times are hard and yet youve taken someone like that into your home! But deep down, I knew with absolute certainty that I had made the right decision.
Back then, we were a family of four: myself, my two daughters, and my mother. Sadly, eight months ago, we lost Mother, and it was just the three of us left. In the months that followed, my daughters and I came to realise we had so much energy and time, and a strong desire to help someone in need.
Id had a close friend since school who, at thirty, instead of building a future or a family, slowly drank his life away. What truly broke my heart was that he would swindle his mother out of her pension to fund his drinking. When she stopped giving it to him, he simply put her into a care home, took her flat, and drank away the proceeds.
Id known this woman since my childhood, just as shed known me. Every month, my daughters and I would visit her, bringing along treats and cakes. When I suggested she come and live with us, my daughters, particularly my youngest, who was only four and a half then, could barely contain their joy. Hooray! Well have a granny again! the little one cheered.
But you should have seen the woman herself when I asked her. She wept with happiness and clung to me until I managed to calm her down. Now, nearly two months have passed since we welcomed Granny into our home. We all love her dearly, and she returns that love tenfold.
Even now, we cant quite fathom where Grannywell into her eightiesgets all this energy. Every morning, shes up at six, and we wake to the scent of fresh scones or pancakes drifting through the house.
